The Business

Our core business is designing beautiful, usable and engaging websites. From single page designs, to large-scale web applications, we provide a complete package of services.

We also offer a range of other professional services including branding, email marketing and design for print.

We enjoy building close, long-term working relationships with our clients, and have a reputation for quality, honesty and reliability.

Andy Higgs, Creative Director & Founder

I run a small and creative firm based in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.

I worked on my first commission when I was 16 years old; five years later I turned my part-time interest into a full-time occupation and started the company.

A finalist for Audi Young Designer of the Year in 2003, I graduated from Loughborough University with a BA Hons. in Industrial Design & Technology in 2006.

In the same year, I wrote a widely-read dissertation on Web Accessibility in UK Small Businesses; one of the first pieces of academic writing on the subject.

I’ve also co-founded a number of other enterprises, including BeTheInvestor, a pitch-based business competition for young entrepreneurs, and Crisis Cover, a business protection web application.

I am an active member of the Midlands-based web-industry group, Multipack, and through this I am regularly involved in related events including Geek In The Park and a.green:focus.

A technology and motorsport fanatic, I also suffer wanderlust, and my curiosity has taken me to Taiwan, Tibet, Malaysia, Nepal, Canada, Australia and Japan, and a few other places too.

Where We Work: The Jewellery Qtr.

This creative and industrial district of Birmingham has played workshop to some of the world’s greatest designers, engineers and innovators over the past three-hundred years.

From the development of the steam engine, to the discovery of plastics, creativity continues to thrive in this modest square mile.

Why Has The Name of The Business Changed?

For a long time the business traded as ‘Andy Higgs Design’, but recently I chose to rebrand the business as The Higgs Design Co.

More and more I have been collaborating with other talented creatives, developers and agencies, and it seems sensible to have a wider brand identity to reflect this. However, to all intents and purposes, there have been no other changes to the way the business operates.
